Matti Schmid, the 26-year-old German, is thriving on the 2024 PGA Tour. The former University of Louisville golfer has quickly found success stateside following his impressive rookie campaign overseas.
Hot Start to 2024
Schmid is off to a scorching start this season, already recording four top-25 finishes in just the first few months:
- T10 at Puerto Rico Open
- T11 at Corales Puntacana Championship
- T17 at Valspar Championship
- T21 at Houston Open
This excellent form builds on his stellar 2022-23 campaign that included a 3rd place finish at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship and a T6 at The American Express. Schmid is projected to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics with his play.
Early Pro & Amateur Success
As the 2021 DP World Tour Rookie of the Year, Schmid announced his arrival with three top-10 finishes on that tour, highlighted by a T3 at the Steyn City Championship. He was also the low amateur at The Open Championship that year, winning the Silver Medal. Before turning pro, he was a decorated amateur, winning the 2020 and 2019 European Amateur titles and leading the international team to victory at the 2020 and 2019 Arnold Palmer Cups.

When not on the golf course, the Bayern Munich fan unwinds by enjoying traditional Bavarian pretzels (Brotzeit) and steaks while catching up on his favorite soccer team's latest matches. The rising German star is undoubtedly one to watch this PGA Tour season and at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
